Root Canals & Extractions

When a tooth is infected or badly damaged, the goal is simple: relieve your pain and protect your health. Whenever possible, Dr. Romero saves your natural tooth with gentle root canal therapy. When a tooth truly can't be saved, we make extraction as comfortable and stress-free as possible — and plan ahead so you can restore the gap. Either way, you're in caring, experienced hands.

What it is

A root canal treats infection or inflammation inside a tooth. The soft tissue (pulp) within the tooth can become infected from deep decay, a crack, or injury — causing pain and, if untreated, an abscess. During a root canal, Dr. Romero gently removes the infected tissue, cleans and seals the inside of the tooth, and restores it with a filling or crown. The result: the tooth is saved, and the pain is gone.

When extraction is the answer

Sometimes a tooth is too damaged, decayed, or loose to save. In those cases, removing it is the healthiest choice — relieving pain and protecting the surrounding teeth and gums. We make extractions as gentle and calm as possible, and we'll always discuss replacement options like an implant, bridge, or denture so your smile and bite stay whole.

What's involved

Whether you need a root canal or an extraction, comfort comes first:

1

Prompt evaluation

Tooth pain is a priority. We see you quickly, identify the problem, and explain your options clearly.

2

Thorough numbing

We make sure the area is completely numb before we begin, so you stay comfortable throughout.

3

Gentle treatment

For a root canal, we remove the infection and seal the tooth. For an extraction, we remove the tooth gently and calmly.

4

Restore & protect

A treated tooth is restored with a crown or filling. After an extraction, we plan how to fill the gap when you're ready.

5

Aftercare

We provide clear, simple instructions to help you heal comfortably and quickly.

Who it's best for

Come see us promptly if you're dealing with any of these — early treatment is more comfortable and protects the rest of your mouth:

  • A persistent toothache or throbbing pain
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers after the source is gone
  • Swelling, tenderness, or a pimple-like bump on the gums
  • A tooth that's deeply decayed, cracked, or abscessed
  • A severely loose tooth from advanced gum disease
  • Pain or crowding from a tooth that needs to be removed

Common questions

A modern root canal is about as comfortable as a routine filling. We numb the area thoroughly, and most patients feel immediate relief because the procedure removes the source of the pain.

Your natural tooth is almost always the best option — it preserves your bite and keeps neighboring teeth from shifting. We only recommend extraction when a tooth truly can't be saved.

We'll give you simple aftercare instructions and discuss replacement options — like an implant, bridge, or partial denture — so you can restore the gap when you're ready.
